My child played around inside a playpen, while I sat for 12 hours, sanding the floor as well as removing the wallpaper. Ha! All was starting to take shape, however we weren't anywhere near finished. The project would require lots of time and money and my personal favorite brands to furnish this home. In order to stay within my budget, I started going to estate sales along with my three brothers to search for jewels in the rough. Each week we would spend between Thursday and Saturday in garage sales and estate sales, buying old and new furniture. In the end, I stenciled and polished in the driveway during the workweek. Looked a little something like this... This is where my passion for the restoration of furniture first began. Although our house was fully furnished, I could not quit. I had a space on the local market, and even sold some items there. In the end, I had numerous pieces that I did not know what to do and I outgrew my space. My home was where I would host open houses in which more than 1,000 people were able to come in and buy any item they wanted on the first floor in just one weekend. Growing Days is the result of this. Growing Days was more than an incredibly successful business, but it was also a loving family. Being a new mom I was able to strike the right balance to both start my own business as well as being a decent mother. Growing Days just fit. The year was 2013, and my lovely daughter Nora was born. She is our fourth kiddo. It was a great direction for my business, however I was also in need of some time off. I decided to quit working on my antique furniture for a while and stay home with the kids. It was exactly what I was looking for. Within a couple of months, my phone started to begin to. People contacted me asking for help with the interior design and renovations of their home. Most of them were people who came into my residence during my furniture open houses. I began taking on customers one by one taking my time however it wasn't long before I had numerous accounts and had an entire home improvement business. If you'd predicted that this venture of mine could become an idea for a TV show on DIY Network I probably would have laughed. As I reflect back, it makes me smile.
